What is Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET)?
Cardiopulmonary exercise testing is a complete test that aims to assess simultaneously the function of different organs of our body, during exercise. Thus, respiratory, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal functions are evaluated simultaneously, via an integrated test.
With cardiopulmonary exercise testing, your physician can evaluate the degree of disability, diagnose the cause of breathlessness, assess the severity of your disease and estimate your preoperative risk for surgery and also evaluate the effectiveness of your current medication.
This is a fairly safe examination as serious events are described in the literature with a frequency of only 5 /10,000. The cardiopulmonary exercise testing is performed in the laboratory (American Medical Center) using a bicycle – ergometer under constant cardiographic monitoring and monitoring of blood pressure. The doctor is always present during the test, ensuring patient safety and comprehensively assesses the test results afterwards. The total duration of the test is about 30 minutes (including preparation and recovery).
