What is the MWT?
The MWT (Maintenance of Wakefulness Test) is a test performed in the sleep laboratory to assess the alertness of the subject . The evening before the test the examinee undergoes full sleep study in the lab.
The test consists of 4 individual tests during which the patient is asked to remain awake for at least 40 minutes. These 4 tests are performed in 2 hours intervals. So the first test starts at 8am and the last one at 3pm .
After the procedure is completed, the results are evaluated by Dr Andreas Zachariades and the total score of the MWT is calculated. The examination may also have application in cases where the level of alertness of the subject is legally questioned.
